Black Ridge in Alexandra is one of the oldest vineyards in Central Otago from the modern era of Central Otago winemaking. The land was bought in 1980, with the first harvest in 1985, and first commercial release in 1988. Many of the vines date back to the beginning, making them over 40 years old, adding complexity and structure. Being Central Otago and the worlds most southern vineyard below the rocky ridge has resulted in wines that are a true reflection of the terroir, the rough hewn schist that the vines have forced their way through, structured and rewarding.
